What We Do

Mfuzo Boxing Camp provides structured boxing training, mentorship and youth development opportunities for young people in Makhanda. Our programmes are designed to develop boxing ability while teaching discipline, confidence, respect and responsibility.

Developing Young People Through Boxing

Boxing is at the centre of our work, but our purpose reaches beyond competitive sport.

We use regular training to give young people structure, positive guidance and a place where they can work towards meaningful goals. Participants are encouraged to remain committed, support one another and apply what they learn at the camp in other areas of their lives.

Our work also creates pathways for talented athletes to compete while building the skills and people needed to support boxing in the wider community.

Structured Boxing Training

Training takes place five days a week and focuses on physical conditioning, boxing technique, self-defence, discipline and teamwork. Experienced coaches guide participants through structured sessions suited to their stage of development. The programme supports young people who are learning the fundamentals of boxing, as well as athletes preparing to compete at higher levels.

Youth Development and Life Skills

Our life skills activities help young people develop qualities they can use at the camp, at school, at home and within their communities. Participants receive practical guidance on goal setting, self-discipline, respect, responsibility and healthy decision-making. We also create opportunities to discuss social challenges affecting young people and encourage them to make choices that support their future.

Mentorship and Support

Coaches and mentors provide young people with consistent guidance, encouragement and positive role models. They take time to understand each participant’s goals and help them remain focused when they face setbacks. Through these relationships, young people are encouraged to take their education seriously, believe in their abilities and become responsible members of their communities.

Competition and Athlete Development

Athletes are prepared and supported to participate in local, regional, provincial and national tournaments. Preparation includes regular coaching, physical conditioning, technical development and guidance before and during competitions. These opportunities allow boxers to gain experience, test their abilities, represent Makhanda and work towards recognition at higher levels of the sport.

Women in Boxing

Mfuzo Boxing Camp is committed to creating meaningful opportunities for girls and women to participate, develop and compete in boxing. Female athletes from the camp have earned provincial and national recognition, showing what can be achieved through discipline and consistent training. Their success continues to encourage more young women to become involved and pursue their sporting goals.

Coach and Official Development

The development of boxing depends on skilled people both inside and outside the ring. Mfuzo Boxing Camp helps build the knowledge and abilities of coaches, referees, judges and ring officials. By developing local sporting expertise, the organisation strengthens the boxing community and helps ensure that young athletes receive the proper guidance and support as they progress.

A Safe and Structured Environment

The camp gives young people a positive place to spend their time after school and during training hours.

Clear expectations, consistent coaching and respect for others form part of every session. Participants learn that improvement comes from regular attendance, listening to their coaches and putting in the work.

Parents and families can know that young people are taking part in supervised activities focused on sport and personal development.
