A Place to Train, Learn and Grow

Established in 1995, Mfuzo Boxing Camp is a community-based non-profit organisation serving young people in Makhanda, Eastern Cape.

What started as a love for boxing has grown into a place where young people can train, receive guidance and discover what they are capable of achieving.

Through structured boxing sessions, mentorship and life skills development, we help young people become more disciplined, confident and responsible. We also create opportunities for talented athletes to compete and progress in the sport.

Vision

To develop empowered, disciplined, and skilled young people who are able to reach their full potential and contribute positively to society, including producing high-performing athletes at national and international levels.

Mission

To use boxing as a vehicle for youth development by providing structured training, mentorship, and life skills programmes that promote healthy lifestyles, discipline, gender inclusion, and socio-economic empowerment.

What we do

Training takes place five days a week and includes physical conditioning, boxing technique, self-defence, discipline and teamwork. Sessions support both young people who are new to boxing and athletes preparing for competition.

Youth Development and Life Skills

Participants receive practical guidance on goal setting, self-discipline, respect, healthy choices and the social challenges affecting young people.

Mentorship and Support

Coaches provide encouragement, guidance and positive role models. Every participant is given a place where they can feel supported while working towards their personal and sporting goals.

Competition Preparation

Athletes are prepared and supported to participate in local, regional, provincial and national tournaments. These competitions give them valuable experience, exposure and opportunities for recognition.

Community Sports Development

Mfuzo Boxing Camp also supports the development of coaches, referees and ring officials, helping to strengthen boxing knowledge and sporting capacity within the community.

Help Us Develop the Next Generation

Running a community boxing camp requires committed coaches, safe training equipment, transport to competitions and support from people who believe in the potential of young people.

Individuals, businesses and community organisations can support Mfuzo Boxing Camp through sponsorships, partnerships, equipment donations, volunteering or financial contributions.

Your support can help another young person develop their talent, build confidence and represent Makhanda with pride.

Proudly Representing Makhanda

Mfuzo Boxing Camp has a proud history of producing local, regional, provincial and national champions.

The camp’s athletes have represented Makhanda and the Eastern Cape at major competitions, with both female and male boxers earning provincial titles and opportunities to compete at national level.

Among the camp’s achievements are South African champion Siphosethu “Yellow Bone” Daweti, as well as Eastern Cape champions Lihlelethu Nzuzo and Masibulele Liwani.

Behind every medal is a young person who has shown up, listened, trained and refused to give up. Their achievements reflect the commitment of the athletes, coaches, families and community supporting the camp.
